Gallo Bros Power Washing

Roof Cleaning in Mountain Lakes, NJ

Low-pressure soft wash that lifts black streaks, moss & algae without touching your shingles.

Roof Cleaning in Mountain Lakes, NJ

If you live in Mountain Lakes, you already know the town's character: mature trees, big lots, and a lot of classic Hapgood-era stucco and cedar-shingle homes tucked in around the lakes. That kind of setting is beautiful, but it's also exactly why roofs here get dirty fast. All that tree cover means constant shade and moisture, and shade plus moisture is what feeds the black streaks and green moss you see creeping across north-facing shingles.

Those black streaks aren't dirt—they're Gloeocapsa magma, a hardy algae that thrives in our humid North Jersey summers and sticks around through the freeze-thaw cycles of a Morris County winter. Pressure washing a roof to blast it off will chew up your shingles and void warranties. We use a soft wash instead: low pressure, the right cleaning solution, and a careful rinse that kills the algae and moss at the root without damaging your roof.

We're Gallo Bros—a family-run local crew, not a national chain routing a truck through town. We'll come out, actually look at your roof, and give you a straight answer. No pressure, no upsell, no invented urgency.

Gallo Bros powerwashing team headed up by Joe, did a great job on our exposed, lakefront home. They went above and beyond to remove dirt and mildew from our house siding, soffits and multiple bluestone patios and walkways, as well as our dock and wood furniture. They also took great care to avoid or work around multiple bird nests which had recently hatched babies pre fledge. I will definitely call them in the future!

We hired Gallo Bros Power Washing to power wash, re-sand and seal our 20 year old paver patio and front walk. They also performed a few repairs and reset a few areas that needed attention. We had never had this done professionally before. From the beginning estimating phase to the final coat of sealer, we were very happy with the services provided, the price and the final result, which they also warrantee for 1 year. I highly recommend Gallo Bros. Power Washing and will use them for other services in the future.

Gallo Bros did an amazing job power-washing my home and roof. They assured me that if I had any concerns they would avail themselves to resolve them. After the cleaning a few leaves blocked the gutter after a heavy rain. They responded quickly and courteously, removing the blockage touched up ,y skylights as well. Before leaving they made sure I was satisfied. Oscar and his team came a few weeks later and sanded and sealed my paver walkway. They were polite and professional, explaining what they were doing, how long it would take, and instructions to ensure the best possible result. What I loved most was the professionalism in their communication. There were several days that we were rescheduled due to heavy rains and storms. The first thing they assured us of was their intent to make sure the job was done correctly. They would not come out to do the work, only to have it washed away. They stayed in contact every step of the way and I felt more than comfortable that the job would get completed the right way. If they couldn’t reach h me by phone they always left a voicemail or sent a text. I just happened to call them first in my search for roof cleaning, but I will never have to look further for these services again. I was really so impressed. Thank you Gallo Bros!

Roof Cleaning in Mountain Lakes — FAQ

Do you pressure wash roofs in Mountain Lakes?

No—and that's important. We use a low-pressure soft wash for roofs. High-pressure washing strips granules off asphalt shingles and can crack or loosen the cedar shakes common on older Mountain Lakes homes. Soft washing cleans and kills the algae without the damage.

What are the black streaks on my shingles?

That's Gloeocapsa magma, an airborne algae that feeds on shingle limestone filler. Mountain Lakes' heavy tree cover and lakeside humidity make it especially common on shaded, north-facing roof slopes here.

Will roof cleaning kill the plants and grass around my house?

We protect landscaping before and during the job—pre-wetting plants, tarping when needed, and rinsing thoroughly. With the mature gardens and foundation plantings a lot of Mountain Lakes homes have, we're careful about it.

When is the best time of year to clean my roof?

Spring through fall works best in North Jersey, so the solution can dry and work in warmer weather. We schedule around our Morris County weather and can plan gutter cleaning at the same time if the trees are dropping.

Are you actually local?

Yes. Gallo Bros is a family-owned North Jersey exterior cleaning company. When you call, you're talking to us—not a call center booking a national franchise.

How much does roof cleaning cost in NJ?

It ranges widely — from a few hundred dollars for a small ranch to several thousand for a large, steep or complex roof. Size, pitch, material, access and how much algae has built up all factor in. You get a firm price up front, free.

Will roof cleaning damage my shingles?

No. We soft wash with low pressure and a cleaning solution — the method asphalt-shingle makers recommend. High-pressure washing is what damages roofs; we never do that on a roof.

What are the black streaks on my roof?

That's a hardy algae called Gloeocapsa magma. It feeds on the limestone in your shingles and spreads in New Jersey's humidity. Soft washing kills it at the root, not just the surface.

How long does a roof cleaning last?

Usually 2–4 years. Because soft washing kills the algae instead of just rinsing it, the clean lasts far longer than a quick power-rinse.
