Re-sand and seal your pavers to lock out weeds, stains and wash-out for years.
Paver Sealing & Polymeric Sand in Chester, NJ
Most of the paver work we get called for in Chester falls into two buckets. Down near Main Street, the older places on and around the historic district tend to have tighter lots and shorter brick or paver walks and aprons that have been down for a couple decades — the joints are washed out, and there's moss packed in where the tree cover keeps things damp. Out in the newer subdivisions off Oakdale Road and the cul-de-sac streets past there, you've got the big front-load driveways and expansive paver patios that builders put in during the last 15-20 years, and by now the polymeric sand has failed and weeds are coming up through the seams.
Both problems come down to the same thing: Chester sits under a lot of oak and maple, and those north-facing driveways barely dry out between rains. Green growth in the joints, black staining on the pavers, and every spring the freeze-thaw and the road salt from the town plows loosen more sand and start heaving edge stones.
We re-sand the joints with polymeric sand, lock it in, and seal the surface so it sheds water instead of soaking it. That's the fix.

They went above and beyond to remove dirt and mildew from our house siding, soffits and multiple bluestone patios and walkways, as well as our dock and wood furniture. They also took great care to avoid or work around multiple bird nests which had recently hatched babies pre fledge. I will definitely call them in the future!”

“We hired Gallo Bros Power Washing to power wash, re-sand and seal our 20 year old paver patio and front walk. They also performed a few repairs and reset a few areas that needed attention. We had never had this done professionally before. From the beginning estimating phase to the final coat of sealer, we were very happy with the services provided, the price and the final result, which they also warrantee for 1 year. I highly recommend Gallo Bros. Power Washing and will use them for other services in the future.”

Paver Sealing & Polymeric Sand in Chester — FAQ
My driveway pavers off Oakdale Road have weeds and moss in every joint — will sealing actually stop that?
The weeds and moss come from open joints holding moisture, which is worse here because of the tree canopy. We clean the joints out, install fresh polymeric sand that hardens to lock the pavers together, then seal. That combination cuts off the water and light that weeds and moss need, so they stop coming back the way loose sand lets them.
Does the road salt from winter plowing wreck sealed pavers?
Salt is rough on unsealed pavers — it works into the surface and the open joints and accelerates spalling and joint washout during freeze-thaw. A proper sealer gives the paver surface a barrier so salt and meltwater bead off instead of soaking in. It won't make pavers indestructible, but it's the single biggest thing that slows salt and freeze-thaw damage on a Chester driveway.
My older brick walk downtown looks stained and dark — is that dirt or something else?
On the shaded, older walks near Main Street it's usually a mix of algae and mildew feeding on the damp brick, plus ground-in organic grime from leaf litter. We soft wash the surface first to kill and remove the growth rather than blast it, then re-sand and seal. Blasting old brick with high pressure just carves the joints out worse, so we don't do that.
How much does paver sealing cost in NJ?
Most patios and driveways run about $1.50–$3.50 per square foot depending on condition and sealer. We clean, re-sand and seal — and quote it all up front, free.
What is polymeric sand and why does it matter?
Polymeric sand goes in the joints between pavers and hardens when wet. It locks the pavers in place and blocks weeds, ants and wash-out far better than regular sand.
How long does paver sealing last?
Usually 3–5 years before a re-seal, depending on traffic and sun. Sealing also brings back the color and makes the surface much easier to keep clean.
Do you clean the pavers first?
Always. We deep-clean, remove old failing sand, re-sand the joints with polymeric sand, then seal. Sealing dirty pavers just locks the dirt in — we never skip the prep.
